Staple's 2001 Country & Craft Fayre |
Sunday 24th June, Staple Recreation Ground |
Staple Fayre's run of good luck with the weather continues! The sunshine brought out around 1500 people and the Fayre was a great success. This was Chairman Ben Holness' first year as fair organiser. It was also the first time the Fayre has been jointly run by the Committee and The Ash & District Young Farmers. The money raised from the Fayre was shared between the various village organisations and The Ash & District Young Farmers. (Which will help them to continue making their regular donations to charity). As always, there was something for everyone at the Fayre: from quality wines for adults (Barnsole Vineyard Stall) to Captain Colin for the kids. Along with new stalls and events there were many of the now 'traditional' Staple Fayre attractions such as Vintage & Classic Vehicles and Leigh Holmes' Birds of Prey. The ever-popular barbecue was also present (long queues and delicious smells !). Other attractions included Maypole Dancing (Goodnestone Primary School Pupils), it's a Knockout, Tossing The Bale, Face Painting, Tug of War, Coconut Shy and Crockery Smashing. A variety of organisations also had a presence at the Fayre: These included St. Johns Ambulance, Wingham Fire Brigade, St.James Church, RNLI and The Hilderstone Radio Club. |
