The Tenth Staple Country & Craft Fayre |
|||
(Sunday 25th June, Staple Recreation Ground) |
|||
Fine weather and record crowds ensured that the day was a total success. The profit from the Fayre was 6,498.94 (the best do far). The guest celebrity this year was BBC Radio Kent's Barbara Sturgeon, who proved to be a very popular choice. The main ring events were all hugely popular. The falconry display in particular drew a massive crowd. watched by a huge crowd. |
|||
 The
Tossing The Bale (senior) Event was a real nail-biter. The finalists were
both equally strong and with the bar at its maximum height there was still
no stopping them. Eventually a draw was declared. (The
two winners were Cedric Marsh and Philip Page)
Attractions around the ring were well attended, and the fine collection of classic cars proved very popular. The cars which drew the most attention were a quaint old 1924 Model-T Ford and an absolutely immaculate MGB-GT. (With 'proper' metal bumpers!) |
|||
The Fayre boasted a very wide range of attractions including Sheep-Shearing, Stationary Engines, Flowers and Plants, St.John's Ambulance, Wingham Fire Brigade, Treasure Hunt, Face Painting, White Elephant, Photo-glazed Plates, Paintings, Bouncy Castle, and Hook a Duck . As you'd expect, the Refreshment Hall, The Beer Tent and the Barbecue all did a roaring trade. (With long queues forming for the Hot dogs and 'burgers). The Fayre featured many traditional attractions too, such as Sheep Shearing, a Coconut Shy and Maypole Dancing (By The Goodnestone Primary School). |
